The department of electronic devices was founded in 1984 as a department of designing and production of electronic computers in connection with the organization of the Department of Computer Systems and Systems of Kharkiv Institute of Radio Electronics (order of the Ministry of Higher Education of Ukrainian SSR № 212 of 28.06.84). Since 1987 the department has been training specialists as full-time students.
Since 1994 the department became a structural subdivision of Technological Institute of East Ukrainian National University named after Volodymyr Dahl. With the introduction of new names of specialties in 1999 this structural unit changed its name to "Electronic Apparatus Department".
From 1984 to 2014 the Department was headed by Mikhail Ivanovich Khil PhD in Technology, Associate Professor, from 2014 to 2019 - Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Victoria Nikolaevna Smoliy, from 2019 to the present - PhD in Technology, Professor Yuri Eduardovich Paerand.
In 2014, according to the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine № 1132 from 06.10.2014 "On the organization of the educational process in Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University" the university was moved to Severodonetsk. Since then the department of electronic devices is a structural unit in Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University.
