History of the department

The Department of Programming and Mathematics was created by merging a large number of separate departments, divisions, departments of several institutes, universities and has a long, glorious history. Thanks to the efforts, constant tireless work, unique pedagogical and scientific achievements of several generations of teachers, researchers, technicians, the department was formed, which became the flagship of the East Ukrainian National University. V. Dahl and his department - the Faculty of Information Technology and Electronics.

The purpose of the department — providing teaching of basic sciences of mathematics and informatics at the faculties of humanities, law, engineering, economics and other prevention, deepening their study in the specialties of IT prevention, as well as "Information Systems and Technologies" and "Software Engineering", as well as replenishment of world knowledge in the field of physical-mathematical and technical IT sciences for the creation of scientific works, projects and research.

Date of creation of the modern department of programming and mathematics, which was founded on the basis of the order of the rector of SNU. V. Dalia Porkuyan OV, - August 8, 2016. The department included scientists, faculty, technicians from two departments operating at that time, each of which has a long way to go:

Prior to that, the history of the department was divided into two separate branches, which went deep into the distant past.

I. The Department of Higher Mathematics was established in 1977 as the Department of the Rubizhne Branch of the Voroshilovgrad Machine-Building Institute. Up to 2,000 students in 5 specialties studied at the higher education institution annually. The training was conducted in the evening. The first head was GM Tverdokhlebov. - a well-known organizer and teacher, candidate of technical sciences, who headed the department for decades. Somewhat later, in 1984, a separate faculty of computer systems and systems was created, separated from the evening faculty of the Russian Federation VMI, which began working on the basis of the Kharkiv Institute of Radio Electronics. Training was conducted on a full-time basis.

In 1994, after the establishment of the Severodonetsk Institute of Technology, two departments from different educational institutions became part of it with the names "Department of Higher Mathematics" and "Department of Applied Mathematics". In 1997, the departments were merged into one unit, the updated department was named "Higher and Computational Mathematics". Since 1999, it was headed by MI Nagulin, Candidate of Technical Sciences.

In 2002, the department was renamed the Department of Higher Mathematics, and in 2005 the Department of Higher Applied Mathematics. Since 2005, the department has been headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Olga Viktorivna Porkuyan.

ІІ. Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of SNO named after Dalia started his work in Luhansk in 1995. It was then that the enrollment of students in the specialty "Computer Science" began, and 4 years later, thanks to the rapid development of this field, the Faculty of Mathematics was established, which existed as a division of the East Ukrainian National University. В.Даля.

It grew rapidly, graduated skilled workers, and the faculty constantly conducted many different scientific researches. The Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, one of the founders of the current Department of Programming and Mathematics, was an example of modernity, the latest ideas and developments, research papers, articles. He was equal to many of the world's higher education institutions, which motivated his students and staff to be vigilant and attentive, inquisitive and open to new knowledge.

These qualities have been passed on to the current department, which is now an example of quality, fruitful and diligent work of scientists, students, teachers, who are the authors of many impressive, innovative projects.

In the past of the department there are many prominent figures, whose names are still mentioned and will be mentioned as long as the department exists. Back in 2001, the Department of Mathematical Analysis was headed by Arlinsky Yuri Moiseevich - Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, an outstanding mathematician, known in the world. Under his leadership, the department was given the opportunity to expand the range of research and international cooperation. Yuriy Hryhorovych Kovalyov also took part in these researches. He is currently a lecturer at the Department of Programming and Mathematics in such areas as: Higher Mathematics, Databases, Mathematical Analysis and others. Gribanov VM also did a lot for the department. - Doctor of Technical Sciences, founder of the scientific school; Pozhidayev VF - Head of the Department of Informatics and many others.

Since October 2014, by order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated October 6, 2014, the institution of SNU named after V. Dahl was transferred to Severodonetsk and placed on the basis of its structural subdivision of the Severodonetsk Technological Institute.

In 2018, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine decided to join the Donbas State Technical University (DonSTU) to the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University. Associate Professor Oleh Zakhozhai, Associate Professor Tetyana Sukach, and Assistant Professor Volodymyr Zinchenko transferred from the Department of Information Technologies and Electronic Systems of DonSTU.

By the beginning of the 2018-2019 academic year, the department will create a computer laboratory, the equipment for which was obtained as a result of the participation of Associate Professor Oleh Zakhozhai in the international project GreenCo - Green Computing & Communications (Project number: 530270-TEMPUS-1-2012-1-UK -TEMPUS-JPCR). The laboratory is located in the auditorium 318NK and is used for classes and research. From the same academic year, the department becomes a graduate in the specialty 123 "Computer Engineering" for students who were transferred from DonSTU to continue their studies at SNU. V. Dahl.

In 2019, the department will be replenished with another research and teaching staff in the field of information technology. To SNU them. Associate Professor Olga Kryazhych, who received her first higher education at this Alma Mater, is returning to Dalia.

In 2020, the United Nations Program for Reconstruction and Peacebuilding (UNDP) will initiate a study of the state and prospects of informatization in Luhansk region. UNDP is involving Professor Oleh Zakhozhai in this study. The obtained results showed a significant need of territorial communities of Luhansk region for qualified specialists capable of developing, deploying and maintaining information systems and services in the framework of general digitalization and informatization of society. To solve this problem, from 2020-2021 academic year, the department begins training masters in the specialty 126 "Information Systems and Technologies", where the focus of the educational program is on the digitalization of social processes and the development of information services in local communities. In addition, with the financial support of UNDP, on the basis of SNU. V. Dahl created the Center for IT Solutions of Luhansk region, which was inaugurated on April 7, 2021. Employees of the department took an active part in the process of creating the Center: Professor Oleh Zakhozhai, Associate Professor Serhiy Mitrokhin, Assistant Volodymyr Zinchenko. The first head of the Center was Professor Zakhozhai OI Since its opening, the Center for IT Solutions has become a platform for the development of IT innovations for local communities of Luhansk region, where research and teaching staff of the department together with applicants develop and implement hardware and software complex "Community IT profile", which is designed to simplify and accelerate processes global informatization of the region. In addition, the Center is a base for internships for higher education and implements a number of training courses for IT professionals in communities and the public.

The processes of general informatization bring not only great opportunities, but also significant challenges. One such challenge is the vulnerability of information systems to malware and cyber threats. Therefore, taking into account the wishes of stakeholders in the educational program of masters in the specialty 126 "Information Systems and Technologies", Professor Oleh Zakhozhai and Associate Professor Sergei Mitrokhin in 2021 begin developing a new course "Cybersecurity in terms of informatization and digitalization of society." The course is developed with the support of CRDF Global and in collaboration with Purdue University (USA).

Today, the Department of Programming and Mathematics is a structural unit that is developing dynamically in line with the progress of modern information technology; trains specialists in educational programs of two specialties: 121 "Software Engineering" (bachelor's degree) and 126 "Information Systems and Technologies" (bachelor's and master's degrees). Also, the head of the department Volodymyr Lyfar and professor of the department Oleh Zakhozhai provide scientific guidance to the candidates for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the specialty 122 "Computer Science". The department employs 12 experienced highly qualified teachers, 8 of whom have scientific degrees.
